The Dog That Inspired a Brand

About Our Caps

Bird Doggin caps are skillfully crafted on the classic trucker style cap from Richardson, and perfectly-fitted ladies style caps from Outdoor Cap. The Richardson is a structured, mid-profile, six-panel cap featuring a durable 65/35 polyester/cotton twill front panel and a 100% polyester mesh back for breathability. The pre curved contrast stitched visor and an adjustable snapback closure guarantees a comfortable fit right out of the box. Our Outdoor Caps ladies line features a mid-crown profile with cotton twill front panels and mesh back panels. A pre curved visor, hook/loop tape closure, and a heavy-washed appearance assures a feminine look and feel, as well as an ample opening for that ponytail. All Bird Doggin caps are expertly embroidered (not screen printed) to show off the Bird Doggin brand!

About Our T-Shirts

The Bird Doggin tee is no ordinary t-shirt! Unlike traditional screen printing that can crack, peel, or fade over time, Bird Doggin uses direct-to-garment, high resolution digital printing technology that literally binds ink into the fibers so that the design becomes part of the fabric. The result is a highly-detailed, long-lasting, photo-realistic reproduction of the Bird Doggin logo on the front pocket, and Edgar Alcantara’s painting of Rachel on the back. (See artist’s information below.)

But our attention to detail doesn’t stop there. The quality of the Bird Doggin tee is just as important as the printing process, so we exclusively feature Comfort Colors (R) tees. Made from super-soft, 100% ringspun cotton, your Bird Doggin tee will feel like an old favorite right out of the package. Comfort Colors are pre-washed, pre-shrunk and have a broken in, faded look. Choose from classic black, rich granite, and florescent blue—in unisex sizes from small to x-large.

And if anyone asks you about Thomasville, Georgia? Just say, “Why, it’s the Bird Doggin capital of the world!”

Inventory Alert: Due to demand, not all colors and sizes of Bird Doggin tees are readily available. If your color/size is not in stock, please contact us at info@birddoggin.com for estimated delivery time.

Founder Tommy Rice

Bird Doggin founder Tommy Rice is a third generation native of southwest Georgia—arguably one of the top wild bird hunting regions in the world. Growing up on a plantation, Tommy learned at an early age all about raising and training dogs and horses. After receiving his BS in business management from Georgia College and State University, he returned to his childhood plantation to further hone his dog and horse skills, particularly field trialing.

With that experience, Tommy then began his professional career working as a plantation scout and assistant dog trainer at other regional plantations before starting his own facility, Diamond R Kennels & Stables in 2015. Since then, he has bred, raised, and trained many champion pointers, including first place titles in the United States Invitational Shooting Dog Championship, the All-American Shooting Dog Championship, the Masters Open Shooting Dog (OSD) Championship, the National OSD Championship, Alabama OSD, Montana OSD, and Gulf Coast OSD. In addition, Tommy has placed as runner up in several championships.

When he is not competing in field trials, Tommy continues to breed and train dogs, and train horses, as well as lead quail hunts. He and his family live outside Thomasville, Georgia.

About the Photographer

Chris Mathan is a photographer, designer and publisher residing in Southwest Georgia. Her life-long love of training and competing with horses and dogs reemerged in the early 90s when she got her first bird dog and became an avid upland bird hunter, while living in the state of Maine. She soon got her first pointer and began competing in wild bird field trials. Chris’ business also took a turn focusing on the shooting sport industry. In 2008, she and friend/cohort, Mazie Davis, wife of Field Trial Hall of Famer, Colvin Davis, launched Strideaway, the online publication devoted entirely to pointing dog field trials.

In 2004, Chris began traveling across the country photographing all things bird dogs and field trials. Her photographs are widely published in pointing dog, conservation and other outdoor publications and catalogs. In 2019, Strideaway undertook an important new project, Youth Field Trial Alliance, promoting youth field trials, training days and providing field trial clubs with support for their youth-oriented activities.

About the Artist

The Bird Doggin t-shirt features a commissioned painting of Rachel—the champion English Pointer that inspired the brand—by acclaimed artist Edgar Alcantara.

Edgar is a full time, self-taught artist who has worked with pastels and oils for over 40 years. Since childhood, he showed a very special interest in drawing. As his artistic skills developed over the years, hunting and his relationship with wildlife greatly influenced his work. Edgar paints many different subjects, but wildlife, dogs, and hunting themes are his passion.

His paintings are being acquired by private collectors, especially hunters, who are looking for unique pieces of art that keeps their memories alive forever.

Edgar can be reached on Facebook at The Art of Edgar Alcantara, or by email at aleewildlifeart@hotmail.com.
